Ottavino pitched 77.2 innings with the Rockies in 2018, going 6-4 with a 2.43 ERA, all while playing 81 games in the hitter-friendly ballpark of Coors Field. He was a big reason why the Rockies reached the NLDS by beating the Chicago Cubs in the National League Wild Card Game. Unfortunately for them, they would fall to the Milwaukee Brewers in the Divisional Series.
The deal for the 33-year-old is still pending a physical, but he is expected to join the likes of Zach Britton, Dellin Betances, and Aroldis Chapman at the back of the Yankees' bullpen. Chad Green and Jonathan Holder have also been locked in this off-season, and this is for a bullpen that became the first in MLB history to strike out 30 percent of opposing batters last season. They will now feature three of the top 11 pitchers in strikeout ratio from 2018, so expect the AL East threats to be much more effective this upcoming season. They are doing anything and everything to take down the defending World Series Champion Boston Red Sox, who eliminated them in the ALDS.
