The journey continues late in the career of Kendrys Morales, as he has struggled to find a consistent home so far this season. He will be sporting already his third jersey of the season after Tuesday's move, which saw the New York Yankees acquiring the slugger from the Oakland Athletics. The move comes just two days after the A's designated him for assignment. They will receive the good ol' player to be named later, or cash considerations, to complete the deal. The Athletics are moving on from the switch hitter after trading for him with the Toronto Blue Jays right before Opening Day.
The 35-year-old does bring some pop to the lineup at hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium, hitting at least 20 home runs in each of the past four seasons. He did that with the Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals, and now sits with 212 career home runs in 13 major league seasons. Despite those numbers, he is hitting just .204 with one home run and seven RBIs in 208 at-bats this season.
The Athletics started him 23 times at first base this season, and manager Bob Melvin was not thrilled that they had to part ways so soon. He did say of Morales "this guy, maybe he didn't put up big numbers, but this is a terrific teammate." The move was also easier for Oakland to make with Matt Olson returning last week after missing 34 games, and from there, it was a numbers game that Morales lost out west.
