The Chicago White Sox will have a new-look starting rotation in 2017 that will not include Chris Sale. One man it will include is Derek Holland, who the White Sox signed to a one-year deal on Wednesday. The contract is reportedly worth $8 million, but Holland can earn an extra $2 million if he reaches certain incentives.
Holland has spent his entire career with the Texas Rangers, who drafted him back in 2006. He officially signed with the team in May of 2007, reaching two World Series with them in 2010 and 2011.
The left-hander has unfortunately missed significant time the last three seasons due to injuries. He was placed on the 60-day disabled list for a third consecutive year this past season. He ended up missing two months of the 2016 campaign due to shoulder inflammation.
In 179 games with the Rangers, Holland posted a record of 62-50 with a 4.35 ERA. In 22 games this past season, Holland went 7-9 with a 4.95 ERA.
The 30-year-old's time with Texas came to an end last month when the team declined his $11 million option.
