Baylor QB Bryce Petty was under pressure a lot during the game, getting sacked 4 times for the Mountaineer defense. Petty was just 16 of 36 for 223 yards and 2 touchdowns on the day, both of which came in the 1st half. The Bears were also penalized 18 times for a Big-12 record 215 yards. The previous record of 183 yards was set by Texas Tech in 2007 against Rice.The Bears were coming off a big 61-58 comeback win over TCU last week, where they overcame a double-digit deficit. The could not do so Saturday after falling behind by 14 in the 4th.
Baylor's offense as a whole was held to 318 yards, which is 305 below their season average. Before Saturday's game, the winning team in this series the past 2 years each had at least 70 points. Shock Linwood scored the Bears only TD in the 2nd half, and ended the game with 69 yards on 21 carries. Baylor will try to regroup November 1st back home against Kansas. West Virginia will try to keep the momentum on their side, looking for another big win at Oklahoma State next Saturday.
