The fourth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers just cannot figure out the Duke Blue Devils so far this season, but they're still a top-5 team in the country with now 21 victories after Monday night. They got back on track on the road, handing the eighth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels their second conference loss of the season, 69-61, at the Dean E. Smith Center. De'Andre Hunter and Kyle Guy led the Cavaliers with 20 points apiece, with Guy connecting on two crucial three-pointers in the final two minutes of regulation. The win for Virginia moves them within a half game of the the first-place Blue Devils in the ACC, tied with the Tar Heels for second place.
The Cavaliers led by seven points at halftime, but gave up an early run in the second half to trail for most of the final 20 minutes. Although, they did not allow the Tar Heels to pull away at home, and did so with a complete effort, including 36 points in the first half and 33 in the second half.
The only two losses for Virginia this season have come against Duke, including last Saturday, but they were able to snap the Tar Heels' seven-game winning streak by rallying from a seven-point deficit in the final eight minutes. Coby White led North Carolina with 17 points, who have dropped five games overall this season, and shot just 35 percent as a team on Monday.
The Tar Heels will hit the road on Saturday afternoon, when they play host to Wake Forest, while Virginia returns home that same day to host Notre Dame.
