Blue Jackets, Wild Keep Streaks Alive
The Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild returned to the ice Tuesday night, both in close contests, looking to extend their franchise-long win streaks. First, it was Nick Foligno's power-play goal in the third that gave the Blue Jackets a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins, extending their win streak to 13. Sergei Bobrovsky had 37 saves, while Scott Hartnell, Seth Jones, and Matt Calvert also scored in the win. The Blue Jackets got out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, but were outplayed for the rest of the game, and that still wasn't enough for them to fall. Bobrovsky recorded his first win over the Bruins in eight tries, and now has beaten every NHL team.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Wild needed overtime to extend their win streak, but it was Jared Spurgeon's OT tally that gave the Wild a 3-2 victory against the Predators, pushing their win streak to 11 games. Zach Parise and Chris Stewart also scored, as the Wild took advantage of Nashville's struggles in the extra period this season. They are now 0-3 in the 3-on-3 period this year, and 2-15 since the OT format was changed.
Westbrook's Triple-Double Leads Thunder
Russell Westbrook was back at it again on Tuesday night, recording his 15th triple-double of the season, as his Thunder won their fourth straight, 106-94, against the Miami Heat. Westbrook finished with 29 points, 17 (defensive) rebounds, and 11 assists in the victory. He nearly got the triple-double by halftime, falling just two rebounds short. Enes Kanter had 19 points, while Steven Adams added 15 to lead OKC. Westbrook then took over the fourth quarter, per usual, scoring 11 points in the final frame to secure the win.
Bills Fire Rex Ryan
The Buffalo Bills made the expected move on Tuesday by firing head coach, Rex Ryan, after just two seasons with the team. The Bills currently sit at 7-8, eliminated from playoff contention, which extends their postseason drought to 17 years. Ryan went 15-16 in 31 games with the Bills, and went 1-7 this season against teams with winning records. That includes a tought 34-31 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins this past weekend. Overall as a head coach, Ryan sits at 61-66, including four straight losing seasons with the New York Jets. Assistant coach, and Rex's brother, Rob Ryan was also fired by Buffalo, as offensive coordinator, Anthony Lynn, will serve as the interim coach for the season finale. He has already announced that quarterback E.J. Manuel will start in place of Tyrod Taylor against the Jets.
