The former MSU Spartan was assessed a flagrant foul, along with a technical after getting into it with Richard Jefferson. James was held to just 20 points on 6-of-20 shooting in the loss. They never trailed in the game and held a 12-point advantage at the half. Williams' 800th win comes in his 29th season as coach, with 418 of those victories coming in his 15 seasons at Kansas. He is the ninth coach in Division I history to reach this milestone. The Orange cut the deficit to as low as three in the second half, but a late 7-0 run got the lead back to 15, and started the celebration for Williams and his team.

Malkin's hat trick is the 11th of his career, and goalie Matt Murray recorded his seventh straight home win, despite surrendering seven goals on 28 shots.
