Ryan, Falcons Take Out Seahawks
The Atlanta Falcons refused to be intimdated by a team that has been there and done that the past few years in the postseason. On Saturday, Atlanta took that team out, as Matt Ryan threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns, lifting the Falcons over the Seattle Seahawks, 36-20. It is Ryan's first playoff win since 2012, which was also against Seattle. The win sends the Falcons to their fourth Conference Title Game in their 51-year history, getting help from a defense that intercepted Russell Wilson twice. Atlanta was able to shake off a regular season loss to Seattle, as their high-scoring offense took advantage of a Seahawks defense that was missing Earl Thomas. Ryan improved his postseason record to just 2-4, but has his offense flying high heading into a matchup with either Green Bay or Dallas next week.
Pats Advance to Another AFC Title Game
In a game that was much closer than expected in the first half, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots found a way to make things more comfortable by the end. Brady shook off two interceptions, throwing for 287 yards and two touchdowns, as the Pats advanced to their sixth straight Conference Title Game with a 34-16 win over the Houston Texans. Dion Lewis accounted for three total touchdowns, including a 98-yard kickoff return, while Julian Edelman had eight catches for 137 yards, as New England inched one step closer to another Super Bowl appearance. Houston's top-ranked defense did make things difficult on the Patriots offense, forcing three turnovers on the night. Brock Osweiler had two turnovers of his own for the Texans after leading them past the Raiders last week. New England will now host either Pittsburgh or Kansas City next Sunday.
UConn Women Set NCAA Record
You know a school has been dominating for a while when they begin to break records that they set themselves. On Saturday, the top-ranked UConn Women's Basketball team blew past SMU, 88-48, for their NCAA-record 91st straight victory. The win breaks the record set by UConn just six years ago. The Huskies scored the first 21 points of Saturday's game, just four days after tying the record with a 65-point win over South Florida. UConn has not lost since November 17th, 2014 in overtime against No. 6 Stanford. Katie Lou Samuelson had 28 points against thte Mustangs Saturday, including five three-pointers. Napheesa Colllier had 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Gabby Williams added 19 points and 10 rebounds of her own in the record-setting victory. The next step for the Huskies: ending the season with a fifth straight national championship.
