The Houston Texans' hot streak came to an end less than a week ago on their home field, but they got back on track on the road Saturday night. DeAndre Hopkins recorded his fourth 150+ receiving yard game of the season, as the Texans got past the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium, 29-22. Deshaun Watson found Hopkins for the game-winning 14-yard touchdown pass with 2:15 to play in the fourth quarter, as the Texans earned their 10th victory of the season. Hopkins finished the night with 10 catches for 170 yards and two touchdowns, as Houston improved to 5-2 away from home.
Hopkins' big day was just about all of the Texan offense on this night, as the Jets outgained the Texans, 318-286, on the night. After the game-winning catch for the star receiver, he seemed as if he had injured his leg, as he was helped to the sideline while celebrating, but the team confirmed after the game that he was OK. Kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn also had a big game with five field goals, including one with 54 seconds left to pulled the game to the eventual final score.
Jets quarterback Sam Darnold had a nice game, throwing for 253 yards and touchdown passes to Robby Anderson and Sam Roberts. The Jets took their first lead of the game on Elijah McGuire's two-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, but dropped to 4-10 on the season, including 2-5 on their home field. What played a role in robbing them on this night was kicker Jason Myers, who missed two extra points, which was the difference for a majority of the game.
Watson completed 22 of his 28 pass attempts for 294 yards and the two touchdown throws to Hopkins, as the Texans did not turn the ball over in a clean game on the road. They extended their AFC South lead to 2.5 games over the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, who will take on the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins respectively on their home field Sunday afternoon.
The Texans are inching closer to clinching a playoff spot and the division, as they move on to visit the short-handed Philadelphia Eagles next week. Meanwhile, the Jets, who now sit a half-game behind the Buffalo Bills for last place in the AFC East, will host the Green Bay Packers that same day.
