The argument that four preseason games are not necessary and only dangerous for starters will now be a bit louder from the Houston Texans organization following Saturday. That is because the team fears that running back Lamar Miller suffered a torn ACL in their 34-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys Saturday night. The injury occurred in the first quarter of Saturday's game at AT&T Stadium, as the running back was carted off the field. Miller was tackled by Cowboys tackle Maliek Collins just below the left knee, which kept the Texans' tailback down.
Miller was seen grabbing his left leg after the play, and was helped out by the medical staff from there. The team, including head coach Bill O'Brien and quarterback Deshaun Watson, expressed their frustration and sorrow for what happened to their teammate after the game.
At the very least, Miller is expected to miss an extended period of time, with an MRI coming on Sunday to reveal the severity of this injury. The Texans did acquire running back Duke Johnson from the Cleveland Browns earlier this month, while Taiwan Jones replaced the starter in Saturday's game. Miller has led the Texans in rushing every season since 2016, including his 973 rushing yards on 213 carries and five touchdowns in 14 games last season. He is entering the final season of his four-year contract with Houston, which adds to the horrible timing of this injury.
