Temple has found their replacement for Matt Rhule and they revealed their choice on Tuesday morning, as they have hired Florida defensive coordinator, Geoff Collins. The move comes despite Collins having zero head coaching experience.
Rhule left the Owls following the regular season after landing the job as the Baylor Bears head coach on a four-year deal.
Collins has been a defensive coordinator for the past seven seasons, most recently with the Florida Gators from 2015 to 2016. He also had stops with Mississippi State for three years annd Florida International for just one. He had just completed the second of a three-year deal with the Gators.
The Georgia man led the Gators to the sixth and seventh ranking in total defense the past two seasons. He has also had gigs as an assistant with UCF, Georgia Tech, Western Carolina, and was Alabama's director of player personnell in 2007.
The Owls have been known to give coaches their first gig, as their previous three coaches had no head coaching experience. That list includes Al Golden, Steve Addazio, and Rhule.
