The Phoenix Suns' lone bright spot over the past three seasons will not hit the floor again this season, the team confirmed on Thursday. The Suns announced that Devin Booker will sit the final three games of the regular season after suffering a sprained ankle. The injury occurred on Wednesday during their 118-97 loss to the Utah Jazz, as Booker landed awkwardly during the first quarter while attempting to bring in a pass. He was ruled out the rest of the game that night and finished with eight points on their home floor.
The star guard was confirmed to miss the remainder of the season less than 24 hours later, which has the Suns without five of their top players as we near the end of the year. They were already playing without DeAndre Ayton, Tyler Johnson, Kelly Oubre Jr., and T.J. Warren on Wednesday.
In his last 11 games of the season, Booker averaged 36.2 points and scored at least 25 or more points in each of those contests. That includes consecutive 50-point games, both of which were in losses, as his Suns hold the worst record in the Western Conference at 18-61. For the season, he averaged 26.6 points and 6.8 assists, making it his third straight season that he has averaged at least 22 points. He has a career mark of 21.4 points per game, and his team will look to the draft and off-season to find a legitimate threat to play alongside the hot scorer.
