Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger underwent successful arthroscopic knee surgery on Monday for an injury he suffered during Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. There is no official timetable for Big Ben's return, but he is definitely out for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Head coach Mike Tomlin claimed that the injury was not long-term, as it was revealed as a torn meniscus in his left knee. Roethlisberger left the game in the first half on Sunday after getting clipped by defensive end Mario Williams. He would return to play the entire second half, finishing 19-of-34 for 189 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Backup Landry Jones is expected to start on Sunday after playing the one series that Roethlisberger sat out in Miami. He has not played a full game since week three of the preseason. He was 19-of-22 for 206 yards in that one.
This will be Jones's first regular season game since 2015, which resulted in a 23-13 loss to the Chiefs. The backup still claims he is comfortable from playing four seasons in offensive coordinator Todd Haley's system.
