The Philadelphia 76ers were disappointed when their draft pick Joel Embiid missed all of the 2014-15 season with a foot injury, and that disappointment will extend into the 2015-16 campaign. Embiid will miss all of the upcoming season due to that foot injury needing yet another surgery.
Sixers president and general manager Sam Hinkie stated that the best healing process would be to continue with a bone graft of the fracture site. The procedure is expected to take place in the next seven to 10 days. Embiid is reportedly not experiencing pain in the foot, but test results showed regression in the healing process.
The team has yet to announce which doctor will perform the procedure on the 21 year-old.
The setback was announced earlier Saturday, and speculation is that it could be career-threatening. Embiid was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by Philadelphia. He had Sixers fans' hopes up when he was shooting, running, and dunking by the end of last season.
Hinkie claims that their top pick's foot is no longer healing well anymore, which is why the team selected Jahlil Okafor with this year's No. 3 pick.
