McDonald's status for their Monday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals has not yet been announced, but Vannett is expected to be ready to play. This trade took place on Wednesday, which gave the former Seahawk a few days to practice with his new team. Vannett did take time to thank the Seahawks on Twitter, while also expressing his excitement about his new journey with the Steelers.
Vannett was a third-round draft pick out of Ohio State and is in the final year of his rookie contract, as he got caught on a Seahawks team that has been relying on Will Dissly at the tight end position. The Steelers only have Xavier Gimble and Zach Gentry at that position with McDonald down. Over 42 regular season games, Vannett has recorded 48 catches for 463 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those scores came in the 2018 season, where he had 29 catches for 269 yards. The Steelers have gotten off to an 0-3 start to their season, which has included a thumping at the hands of the New England Patriots, and Roethlisberger going down for the year with an elbow injury.
