The Houston Rockets have been the one team in the NBA that is not afraid to shoot the three-point ball, and they did just that in record-setting fashion on Wednesday night. The Rockets set an NBA record with 26 three-pointers in a 136-118 rout of the Washington Wizards at the Toyota Center on Wednesday. They shot 47 percent from beyond the arc, as they improved to two games over .500 with their fifth straight victory. James Harden stayed hot with 35 points on the night, as the Rockets tied and broke the three-point record in the final minutes of regulation.
Gary Clark tied the mark with 2:42 to play, while Michael Carter-Williams broke the record with one of his own with 31.1 seconds left. That breaks the record that was set by the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers on March 3rd, 2017. The Cavs hit 25 three-pointers on that night against the Atlanta Hawks.
Harden contributed six three-pointers, while Chris Paul had five, and four apiece were made by Gerald Green and Eric Gordon. They attempted 55 three-pointers on the night, but it worked, as they tied their longest win streak of the season, this after dropping three straight games. They pulled away for good in the fourth quarter with a mini 7-0 run, as the Wizards could not put together a string of points from that moment-on.
Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 28 points, but they have dropped six of their past seven games, getting their record back to eight games under .500. They did rally with 32 points in the third quarter to make things interesting entering the fourth, but the Rockets once again pulled away with 35 points in the final 12 minutes.
The Rockets did not have much time to regroup, as they battled the Miami Heat the very next night. Meanwhile, the Wizards are enjoying two days off before hosting the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night.
