Josh Smith had 21 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Houston Rockets past the Memphis Grizzlies in overtime 117-11 in his team debut. Smith officially signed with the Rockets after being waived by the Detroit Pistons last Monday.
James Harden led Houston with 32 points and 10 assists, including a breakaway dunk to seal the victory with less than a second left in overtime. Smith seemed very comfortable with his new team, taking the most shots for Houston.
Trevor Ariza finished with 15 points, Corey Brewer added 13, while Patrick Beverly had 12 points. Dwight Howard scored just 6 points on the night, but was 4-for-4 from the free throw line in overtime, and grabbed 11 rebounds.
With the win, the Rockets leapfrog over the Grizzlies for the top spot in the Southwest Division with a 21-7 record.
The Grizzlies were led by Marc Gasol's 29 points, while getting 17 from Beno Udrih and Quincy Pondexter added 14. Vince Carter had 10 points, including 2 big 3's down the stretch to fuel a Grizzlies rally, including a 10-0 run to force overtime.
The Grizzlies fall to 21-8 on the season, and out of first place in the Southwest Division. Memphis will visit the Miami Heat tonight at 7:30, while the Rockets will visit in-state rival San Antonio Spurs tomorrow night.
