Contrary to recent reports, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has not been cleared to play. Griffin suffered concussion-like symptoms on August 20th in a game against the Detroit Lions. Griffin did not return to that game, but did practice all week, and had reportedly been cleared by a neurologist.
It was announced on Friday that Griffin had not been cleared, and then on Saturday morning the Redskins revealed that Kirk Cousins will start week 1 of the regular season against the Miami Dolphins.
The team had admitted that they anticipated that Griffin would be cleared, but that was not the case after meeting with Neuropsychologists and Anthony Casolaro M.D.
It was unclear if RG3 had suffered a concussion, and the quarterback could not point to the play that the injury occurred. Many believe it happened on the final play of the night when a Lions player fell on him.
Griffin declined to call it a concussion after the game, saying "you have to talk to the people who report that stuff." The quarterback seemed to be taking everything very carefully when he spoke on Thursday, saying how he is following the protocol and waiting to see what happens.
Between the Griffin's injury and Cousins' strong preseason, Cousins will get the start Saturday night, and the opening week of the 2015 regular season.
