The Boston Red Sox took a knock to their starting rotation right as they seem to be finding some consistency and inching closer to .500. The defending World Series Champions placed left-handed pitcher David Price on the injured list on Monday with elbow tendinitis. The announcement comes right before his scheduled start on Monday night in Baltimore against the Orioles. The left-hander has told reporters recently that his arm has been "bothering him," but the team only expects him to miss one or two starts, which is about the extent of the typical 10-day IL.
Price dealt with elbow problems throughout the 2017 season, before finding a bit more health last season during his team's World Series run. Two seasons ago, he did not make his first start of the season until May 29th due to a strained elbow. He then went on to sit out from July 22nd to September 17th with elbow inflammation.
The veteran had been pitching well as of late for Boston, allowing three runs or fewer in each of his last four outings. On the season, he is 1-2 with a 3.75 ERA in six starts, as he is in his third year with the team, The 33-year-old is a former American League Cy Young Award winner, winning it in 2012 with the Tampa Bay Rays, but the worry now is his inability to stay healthy. The Red Sox selected the contract of 28-year-old Ryan Weber, and the right-handed pitcher is expected to join the team at Oriole Park on Monday night.
