It has been known since the end of last regular season that Joe Flacco would be traded this off-season after the Baltimore Ravens went with rookie Lamar Jackson as their starting quarterback. Once they made the playoffs with Jackson, is what nearly solidified, and on Wednesday, it was official. The news came out from Adam Schefter at ESPN that the Ravens will be trading Flacco to the Denver Broncos. The trade cannot become official until the new league year begins on March 13th. Until then, both teams are prohibited from commenting on the trade or the terms. It will most likely see a mid-round draft pick go to Baltimore, but again, nothing has been revealed.
The Ravens will save $10.5 million in cap space without the former Super Bowl MVP, while this moves also lets us know that the Broncos will not go with a quarterback with the 10th overall pick in the NFL Draft. The two sides reportedly began talking on Monday, before agreeing to a trade just two days later.
Flacco is the first of what is expected to be several quarterbacks to move on this off-season. That list includes the likes of Ryan Tannehill, Tyrod Taylor, Nick Foles, and Blake Bortles. Teams such as the Jacksonville Jaguars, Washington Redskins, and Miami Dolphins are among those looking for a new man under center. The 34-year-old Flacco will take over for Case Keenum, as the Broncos' quarterback position was the one spot that held them back last season. There is only one question left: does Flacco have one more run left in him?
