The Baltimore Ravens added a veteran presence and speed just one week before the regular season opener. The team agreed to a one-year deal with wide receiver/kick returner Devin Hester on Sunday morning. Hester had worked out for the Ravens for two consecutive days, culminating on Saturday.
The four-time Pro Bowler was released by the Atlanta Falcons after undergoing surgery on his right big toe in January. Recovery time for that procedure was three to six months.
The Ravens have struggled with their return game all preseason long, and they hope Hester has enough left in him to be their answer. Michael Campanaro was scheduled to be their top return man, but was placed on injured reserve. Their other option, Keenan Reynolds, was released over the weekend.
The 33-year-old holds the NFL record with 14 punt return for touchdowns, as well as 20 combined punt and kickoff return for scores. Hester will look to add to those numbers, as well as strengthen the Ravens' return game heading into the season.
