The Texas Rangers had a tough day in regards to the health of their outfield on Monday, and it began with the announcement that Josh Hamilton will not play this season. Hamilton underwent a second knee surgery this past off-season, and has not yet seen the field this season.
He was placed on the 60-day disabled list to begin the year, but the team still expected the former MVP to return this season. Instead, the 35-year-old will undergo a third procedure on the injured knee come June 8th.
Texas expects Hamilton back on the field in 2017, which will be the final season of his five-year, $125 million contract. He returned to the Rangers last season after spending time with the Angels, but since his return, he has just 170 plate appearances and eight home runs.
Meanwhile, the team's frustration increased when they were forced to put Shin-Soo Choo back on the disabled list one day after taking him off. Choo was dealing with a calf strain, but was activated before Friday's game.
The former Indian was placed right back on the DL with what is being called a strained left hamstring. Since Choo took the rest of the weekend off, the move is retroactive to Saturday. Drew Stubbs also went down with a toe injury, but the team has not yet made a roster move to fill the holes.
