Just a day after getting pummeled by the Atlanta Falcons at home, the Los Angeles Rams made a shocking move by firing head coach, Jeff Fisher, on Monday. The move is somewhat questionable due to the timing, as the team is on a short week where they take on the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night. The Rams' front office explained the move by calling it "an organizational failure." Rams COO Kevin Demoff also called it "soley a performance-related issue."
The son of long-time NFL coach Jim Fassel, John Fassel, will be the team's interim coach for the final three games.
The Rams signed Fisher to a two-year contract extension prior to the season, but the deal wasn't announced until about two weeks ago. Sunday's loss was L.A.'s third consecutive defeat, dropping them to 4-9 on the season. It also gave Fisher 165 losses in his career, tying him with Dan Reeves for the NFL record.
Overall, Los Angeles had dropped eight of their past nine, and have already clinched their 10th straight losing season, five of which were under Fisher. In 22 seasons as a coach, the 58-year-old has just six winning seasons. His best season since taking over the Rams in both St. Louis and L.A. was at 7-8-1 in 2012. That was Fisher's first season with the team, and it's been downhill ever since.
