The Los Angeles Rams' defense have already had multiple forgettable performances this season, which has caused a mid-season shakeup for the defending NFC Champions. The Rams dealt cornerback Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday in exchange for linebacker Kenny Young and a 2020 fifth-round draft pick. The move comes after the Rams suffered their third straight loss to the San Francisco 49ers, as they dropped to 3-3 after a 3-0 start. That includes losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks, which saw them give up 55 and 30 points respectively.
Peters is in the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, and joins a Ravens team that has struggled a bit defensively after a strong start. They are coming off a win over the Cincinnati Bengals, but did get lit up by Nick Chubb and the Cleveland Browns, while also giving up more than expected to a short-handed Pittsburgh Steelers team. It will be interesting to see how the Rams will look come Week 7, as they also placed fellow cornerback Aqib Talib on injured reserve on Monday with a rib injury.
The Ravens' defense has been hampered with injuries this season, including Jimmy Smith missing the past five games with a knee injury, while Tavon Young is done for the season with a neck injury.
Peters came over in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs prior to the 2018 season and started 22 games for the Rams over a year and a half with them. Los Angeles acquires a second-year pro out of UCLA in Young, who started six games for Baltimore and has two forced fumbles and one recovery on the year. This deal will get interesting come Week 12 when the Rams host the Ravens on Monday Night Football.
