The Los Angeles Rams' normally powerful offense did not look that way coming off a bye week after a 54-51 Monday night win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite that, the best team in the NFC, record-wise, came away with a road win, 30-16, over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The win already clinches the NFC West Division crowd for a second straight season, as Sean McVay's team holds a one-game lead in the NFC on the New Orleans Saints, who fell to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night. Todd Gurley overcame a slow first half to run for 132 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns, leading the Rams to their 11th win of the year, five of which have come on the road.
Aaron Donald, who seems to be well on his way to another Defensive Player of the Year award, sealed the win late by forcing a fumble on Matthew Stafford, which allowed the Rams to kick a field goal and get the game back to a two-possession differential. Stafford then threw an interception in the end zone in the final seconds, which officially ended things at Ford Field.
Jared Goff looked rusty coming off the bye, missing numerous wide open targets, and finishing with 207 yards on 17-of-33 throwing. His one touchdown pass was to Robert Woods, who led Rams' receiving with five catches for 67 yards. Goff also had an interception on the day, which was one of two turnovers for the Rams.
The Lions' defense was able to keep them in the game, but they also turned the ball over twice, dropping to 4-8 on the season. They have lost five of their past six games after getting their record over .500 at the end of October.
Gurley's two touchdown runs gives him a franchise-record 15 touchdowns on the season, and he also caught three passes for 33 yards. His Rams will move on to another tough NFC North contest against the Chicago Bears next week. The Lions got 245 yards passing and a touchdown from Stafford, but the last-place club will move on to visit the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday.
