The Oakland Raiders' first season with Jon Gruden back as head coach has been a forgettable one, but they may be able to end it on a high note. As for games actually in Oakland, they did just that on Monday night, as they beat the Denver Broncos on Christmas Eve, 27-14. Dwayne Harris sparked the night early on with a 99-yard punt returned for a touchdown, giving the Raiders their fourth win of the season, and their first division win, making them the last team in the NFL this season to get their first division victory. It was also their first Monday Night Football win at Oakland Coliseum since 2002 in what could be their final game in Oakland.
The Raiders will be moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2020, but they do not have a lease for where they will be playing next season. They are reportedly looking in to other options for the 2019 campaign, including AT&T Park in San Francisco, California. A final decision for this is expected to be made before the Super Bowl in February.
Doug Martin ran for 107 yards and a touchdown for the Raiders, who sent the Broncos to consecutive losing seasons for the first time since 1971 and 1972. Denver went 5-11 in Vance Joseph's first season as head coach, and they can only finish 7-9 at best with a win next week. They were in the playoff conversation at the beginning of December, but three straight losses ended those hopes for the 6-9 club. Case Keenum did have touchdown passes to DaeSean Hamilton and Courtland Sutton, but the Broncos never led on the road in the upset loss.
Jalen Richard also scored on the ground for the Raiders, who will end their season on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Broncos will battle the Los Angeles Chargers, as both of Monday's teams will be looking to play spoiler to both teams' AFC West aspirations.
