The Ohio State Buckeyes have looked unstoppable, amidst all the drama surrounding their program this season, but that dominance came to a sudden halt on Saturday night. D.J. Knox ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Purdue Boilermakers to a 49-20 blowout of the second-ranked Buckeyes at home. The loss is Ohio State's first of the season, as they failed to find the end zone until the fourth quarter, being held to two field goals before then.
David Blough threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Rondale Moore, without turning the ball over. The receiver caught 12 passes for 170 yards on the night, while Isaac Zico had the other touchdown reception in the first quarter.
Dwayne Haskins did throw for 470 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns to make the score more respectable on the road. Although, his lone interception was returned 41 yards by Markus Bailey for a touchdown for the final score of the game. The Boilermakers' last win over a top-2 team was against the same Buckeyes team on October 6th, 1984, as they broke their school record for points in the series, topping a 41-6 win in 1967.
The Buckeyes had their 11-game win streak come to an end, falling a game behind the Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten East Division. The 29-point loss was the largest for a top-2 team against an unranked team since 2012, as Ohio State compiled just 76 rushing yards on 25 carries as a team.
Blough's big game was his third straight 300-yard game and fourth this season, out-playing Haskins, who broke two Ohio State records. His 49 completions and 73 passing attempts both set school marks, but he threw multiple near interceptions, while also over-throwing targets in the loss.
The Buckeyes look to bounce back next week when they visit Nebraska, while Purdue stays home to host Michigan State.
