The New England Patriots had a rare down night when it comes to scoring points and finding the end zone on Monday night, but a Tom Brady-led team will almost always find a way to win. And that they did, as Devin McCourty helped his team pull away in the fourth with an 84-yard interception returned for a touchdown, as the Pats beat the Buffalo Bills on the road, 25-8. The Patriots never trailed but did not score an offensive touchdown until James White's one-yard score on the ground in the fourth quarter, where the Patriots scored 13 points, while shutting out the Bills in those 15 minutes.
Stephen Gostkowski kicked four field goals on five attempts before two fourth-quarter touchdowns, as the Patriots won their fifth straight game. That keeps them in first place in the AFC East at 6-2, as they improved to 2-2 on the road after two straight such losses.
Brady was held without a touchdown pass for the first time this season, but completed 29-of-45 passes for 324 yards and did not turn the ball over. Although, the Bills' defense was able to shut down the Patriots' drive inside the 10-yard line twice.
McCourty's interception came on Derek Anderson's pass up the middle that was intended for Charles Clay in the end zone. The cornerback came from the opposide side of the field and never broke stride all the way to the other end for the score. This came just one possession after White's touchdown run sealed a 10-play, 85-yard scoring drive with 9:58 remaining. The loss for the Bills was their third in a row, dropping them to 2-6 in last place of the division. It is their worst start to a season since going 0-8 in the 2010 campaign.
The Patriots will return home next week for a Sunday night showdown with the Green Bay Packers, while the Bills will host the Chicago Bears that afternoon.
