The city of Oakland, California is hoping at some point this summer they will be able to hear the news that KD will be sticking around. That KD being Kevin Durant of the NBA's Golden State Warriors, but until then, a different KD committed to the city on Thursday. Oakland Athletics' slugger Khris Davis agreed to a two-year contract extension that is worth $33.5 million. This news was announced on Thursday afternoon, less than a month in to the 2019 regular season. The official financial terms of the contract were not disclosed, but ESPN's Jeff Passan reported the dollar amount that he heard from sources close to the team.
Davis has an American League-leading 10 home runs on the season, which is also second in all of baseball behind Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers. Davis has also knocked in 20 runs on the season and is hitting .261 for the Athletics. Since joining the A's in 2016, Davis is first in baseball with 143 home runs, tied for second with 355 RBIs, and fourth with 228 extra-base hits.
The right-handed slugger led all of baseball with 48 home runs last season, and now has at least 40 home runs in all three seasons with the Athletics. Those three seasons with 40 home runs ties him with Mark McGuire and Jimmie Foxx for the most in franchise history. When asked about his new extension, Davis said "this team has a bright future, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."
