The San Francisco 49ers announced on Monday that they have released tight end Bruce Miller following his recent arrest. Miller was arrested in the morning hours on Labor Day on suspicion of assaulting a 70-year-old man in San Francisco.
He was taken to the San Francisco County Jail, and is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of criminal threats, battery, and elder abuse. He is also being held on $178,000 bond.
The police were called to a hotel at approximately 2:45 a.m. after Miller, who was intoxicated, attempted to enter the hotel room of an elderly couple. The couple's son, who was next door, tried to tell the former Niner that he was in the wrong room. The tight end then attacked the son, as well as the 70-year-old father, who came to his son's defense, sending both of them to the hospital.
The Niners acknowledged the situation by saying that they will "continue to monitor the situation." The team went on to release the player later in the day.
The 29-year-old was also arrested in March of 2015 in Santa Clara on suspicion of spousal battery after being accused of shoving his then-fiancee.
Miller was entering his sixth season in the NFL, after joining the 49ers in 2011. He had just moved to the tight end position, as he was previously being used as a running back. Now, it's questionable if a team will want to use him at all.
