Two other players were locked in during the final few days of the off-season in the National Football League, including Los Angeles Chargers center Mike Pouncey. The center signed a one-year extension with them earlier this week, which will pay him $9 million. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news for the man that was named to his fourth Pro Bowl a season ago. He started all 16 games for the Chargers in 2018, this after signing a two-year, $18 million deal with them the previous off-season. The 30-year-old was released by the Miami Dolphins after the 2018 season after he refused to take a pay cut.
Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals hung on to running back Giovani Bernard with a new two-year contract extension. This new contract will keep Bernard with the Bengals through the 2021 season and is worth $10.3 million. All the details of the contract was revealed Tuesday afternoon. The deal also includes $600,000 in guaranteed money, which will be paid to him by March of 2020. Bernard is entering his seventh season out of North Carolina, but is now fighting for playing time in the backfield with the up and coming Joe Mixon. Over six seasons with the Bengals, he has appeared in 83 games, including 18 starts, but is coming off a down season after Mixon took over. Last season he finished with 211 yards on 56 carries and 35 catches for 218 yards. The Bengals proved that they still have faith in him heading in to 2019, so Bernard has another chance to prove himself behind Andy Dalton.
