New Mexico's victory was their eighth of the season, and they improved to 2-0 in the Mountain West Conference early on. Vance Jackson gave them a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, while also adding seven assists and three steals. Makuach Maluach contributed 14 points for the Lobos, who avenged a blowout loss at Nevada a season ago.
Jordan Caroline scored 17 points to lead Nevada, who shot just 33 percent from the floor, including 18 percent from three-point range. On the other end, the Lobos shot 45 percent, including 11-of-29 from three-point range, while also out-rebounding Nevada, 47-37, and forcing 14 turnovers. The Wolf Pack were seemingly off-balanced from the opening tip, as their two star brothers, Caleb and Cody Martin, combined to shoot 4-of-21 for 17 points.
The Lobos did not waste any time getting ahead early on, using a 20-6 run to take a 22-9 lead in the first half. From there, Nevada could not get the deficit back to single digits, and New Mexico will take their perfect conference record in to a home matchup against UNLV on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, the Wolf Pack will look to bounce back against San Jose State on Wednesday.
