The Brooklyn Nets not only fell on the road to the lowly Washington Wizards Saturday night, but they once again watched their star point guard, Kyrie Irving, go down. This one was a very scary looking injury, but fortunately it is not as serious as it looked it might be initially. Following an MRI on Sunday, the team announced that Irving is expected to miss a week with a knee sprain. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter of their 113-107 loss to the Wizards at Capital One Arena on Saturday, as Irving got tied up with Bradley Beal and fell awkwardly on his leg, with Beal falling on his bent leg.
Irving was down for about five minutes before staying in for the jump ball, where he did not even attempt to jump, and then he walked to the locker room and did not return. The MRI revealed the medial ligament sprain, which is to his right knee. He is at least expected to miss games against the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and Toronto Raptors.
This injury comes just as it seemed that the former Cleveland Cavalier and Boston Celtic was finding his groove in his first season with the Nets. The night before, Irving went off for 54 points in a win over the Chicago Bulls, but he is quickly sent to the sidelines. He has already missed a career-high 28 games this season, 26 of which were due to a right shoulder injury, one for a hamstring injury, and one to mourn the death of Kobe Bryant. And now he can add the knee ailment to the unfortunate list that is Irving's 2019-2020 season.
