This year's NBA trade deadline saw a good amount of point guards switch teams, and a couple of players get exactly what they wanted. At the top of both of those lists: Goran Dragic. Dragic came out in an interview to say that he no longer trusts the Phoenix Suns. His numbers have gone down, and his agent had already told the team he would not be returning after this season.
With all that factored in, the Suns nearly felt force to trade away Dragic before Thursday's deadline. They did just that, sending him to the Miami Heat. The Heat sent back the likes of Danny Granger and Norris Cole. Cole didn't last long with the Suns, as he was traded to the Pelicans for John Salmons.
The other notable trade was a 3-team deal involving the Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers, and Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks sent Brandon Knight to the Suns, while acquiring Michael Carter-Williams and Tyler Ennis. The Sixers acquire Isaiah Thomas in the deal, and then sent him to the Celtics for draft picks. Knight is nearly having an All-Star season, and will now be playing for his 3rd NBA team.
The other point guard that seemed to get what he wanted was the Thunder's Reggie Jackson. Jackson was traded to the Detroit Pistons for D.J. Augustin and Kyle Single, who will both come off the bench. Augustin will have the role of backing up Russell Westbrook. The Pistons were in talks to acquire Joe Johnson from the Brooklyn Nets, but that deal never went through. Reggie Jackson was also rumored to be heading to the Nets for Brook Lopez.
Westbrook told the media that it was obvious that Jackson did not want to be with the team, but they weren't going to let that hold them back. Jackson made that obvious by tweeting Thursday "Crying tears of joy." That tweet was sent out after the announcement of the trade.
The Thunder also acquire Enes Kanter from the Utah Jazz for Kendrick Perkins. Perkins is expected to be bought out by Utah, and will be available to sign with other teams. The Cavaliers and Clippers are 2 favorites to land the big man.
Other trades saw a couple of homecomings, as Kevin Garnett returned to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Garnett began his career with Minnesota, is expected to play 1 more season, and wants to retire with the team. Thaddeus Young went to the Brooklyn Nets in the trade.
The other homecoming saw Tayshaun Prince return to the Pistons, who sent 2 players to Boston.
The first trade of the day saw Arron Afflalo head to the Portland Trail Blazers for Thomas Robinson and a draft pick. The Nuggets also sent JaVale McGee to the Sixers for a draft pick. The Kings and Wizards swapped point guards, as Andre Miller went to the Kings for Ramon Sessions.
The NBA deadline was fairly quiet all the way up to 3:00 PM EST., but it turned out to be a historic deadline. A total of 39 players were dealt in 11 trades, which marks the most players traded in one deadline day in the past 25 years.
