Mikkel Boedker's empty-net goal in the 3rd period completed his 1st career hat trick in a 7-4 Arizona Coyotes win over the Edmonton Oilers. Boedker had a power-play goal in the 1st, and a backhander in the 3rd, before the empty-netter capped off the hat trick. Boedker added an assist on the night, and now has 5 goals on the season. Kyle Chipchura, Connor Murphy, Rob Klinkhammer, and Martin Erat each found the back of the net.
Arizona had 13 players with at least 1 point, as Shane Doan and Martin Hanzal each had a pair of assists. The Oilers remained winless on the young season, now 0-3-1, and allowed at least 4 goals for the 2nd consecutive game. The Oilers fell to the Los Angeles Kings 6-1 Tuesday night, and spoiled a 2-goal night from Taylor Hall. Marc Arcobello and Mark Fayne each scored as well for the Oilers, while Ben Scrivens had just 23 saves against 29 shots.
Goaltender Mike Smith played in his 165th career game with Arizona, tying Brian Hayward for 5th all-time in franchise history. Smith also had just 23 saves, but that was against 27 shots on the night. The Coyotes run their record to 2-1-0, and move on to host a very good St. Louis Blues team Saturday. The Oilers continue the search for their first "W", as they host the Vancouver Canucks Friday night.
