The New York Mets are trying to not have another down season in the NL East, although, after a fast start to their season, they have once again slowed down before summer fully hits. part of the reason is that they are missing a big punch in the middle of the lineup, that being Yoenis Cespedes. Less than a month ago, the outfielder was said to be making great strides in his recovery., although, more bad news came the team's way this week. An accident at his ranch has set Cespedes back in a major way, as he reportedly fractured his ankle earlier this week in a fall at the ranch.
The injury was to his right ankle, this after not yet playing this season following surgery to repair both heels in the off-season. He was already expected to miss at least half the season, but now, with this latest incident taking place, he may not play at all this season. The team reportedly learned of this accident on Saturday night, as it took place down in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The accident was enough for him to suffer multiple fractures at once.
The 33-year-old did not give the team or reporters too many details of how he fell or what he fell off of, but did confirm that it was not baseball-related. The former Oakland Athletics and Detroit Tigers slugger is a two-time All-Star and former Home Run Derby Champion, and has been a major producer since joining the Mets. He led them to the 2015 World Series, along with another Postseason appearance in 2016, but has only played 119 games since signing a four-year, $110 million before the 2017 season.
