The Orlando Magic are hoping to stay relevant in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, and wins like they got on the road Sunday afternoon sure will help that process. The Magic took advantage of Kawhi Leonard sitting this one out, as they ended the Raptors' win streak at seven with a 113-98 win at the Scotiabank Arena. Terrence Ross led the Magic with 28 points against his former team, while Nikola Vucevic chipped in with a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds. The Magic have now won six of their past seven games overall, a streak that included five consecutive wins, which was a season high before a 110-109 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Friday night.
Jonathan Isaac added 16 points and DJ Augustin scored 12 to support Ross, who haunted the team he spent four and a half years with. He shot 9-of-21 from the floor, including 3-of-8 from three-point range, while also tying a season high with nine rebounds. He has been red hot as of late, and has led the Magic in scoring 11 times this season, including in five of the past 10 games.
The Magic pulled away in the fourth quarter by connecting on 12 of 20 field goal attempts, and led by double digits for the final nine minutes. Kyle Lowry led the Raptors with 19 points and 10 assists, while Pascal Siakam added 10 points and 11 rebounds on their home floor. The loss was their first since falling to the Milwaukee Bucks on January 31st, which was also in Toronto.
The Raptors were resting Leonard after he scored 25 points, including 19 in the second half, on Friday night against his former team, the San Antonio Spurs. He is expected back on Tuesday night against their rival, Boston Celtics.
The Raptors' divisional matchup with the Celtics is their next game, while the Magic will be in Madison Square Garden to battle the New York Knicks that same night.
