The Tampa Bay Lightning let Monday's Trade Deadline come and go without making any major moves, and that's because they are already the best team in the entire league. After Monday night, they now have a nine-game winning streak and 100 points on the season to back that up. After J.T. Miller forced overtime at 12:04 of the third period, the Lightning scored three times in the shootout for a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings. Brayden Point and Antony Cirelli also scored for the Lightning, who are the first team to reach 100 points this season, and did so with 48 victories. They have also now matched a franchise record with nine straight victories, which they set from February 18th to March 5th of 2016.
The Lightning also became just the fourth team in NHL history to reach 100 points in 63 games or fewer in a season, and they have run away for a 19-point lead on the Boston Bruins for first place in the Atlantic Division. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 30 saves for the Lightning, who are 11-0-2 in their past 13 games.
Alex Iafallo, Jonny Grodzinski, and Austin Wagner all beat Vasilevskiy for the Kings, who have dropped eight straight games. Jack Campbell made 31 saves for the road team, who are 0-5-3 in their past eight. All three of their goals came within 5:46 of the third period.
The Lightning will look to get their win streak in to double digits when they visit the New York Rangers on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the Kings will visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.
