The Eagles used their final timeout to execute the "ice the kicker" trick, which seemingly worked, as Parkey made his initial attempt, which didn't count. Before this botch, Parkey was 11-for-12 on field goals in the fourth quarter this season, and had already gone 3-for-3 on the day. Although, the final miss puts an end to a tough season for Parkey, to say the least. Every one of his misses this season have hit the upright, and the kicker could not avoid the yellow pole of doom when it mattered most for his team.
The defending champs converted a 12-play, 60-yard drive to win the game on offense, this after they slipped in to the postseason past the Minnesota Vikings, who lost to the same Bears team a week ago. The Eagles beat the Washington Redskins to get in, and now they look to become the first team to repeat as Super Bowl Champions since the New England Patriots did it in 2004. They also look to become the first six seed to win the Super Bowl since the Green Bay Packers won it all in 2010. Ironically enough, the Packers won at Soldier Field en route to that title.
The Bears now fall to 1-15 all time in the postseason when trailing after three quarters, despite taking the lead on an Allen Robinson touchdown with 9:04 to play. Foles threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns to overcome two interceptions, as he wins his fifth straight playoff game, dating back to last season. Mitch Trubisky was participating in his first-career playoff game, and threw for 303 yards and a score in the loss for the NFC North Champions.
The Eagles' path to the Super Bowl may be a lot tougher than it was last season, as they move on to visit Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round next week.
