The Chicago Bulls were playing a very similar overtime game on Thursday, but unfortunately for them, it was not the same result. After getting past the Golden State Warriors in OT on Tuesday, the Bulls could not pull off the same magic, falling in double overtime to the Los Angeles Lakers 123-118.
After hitting the game-winning shot in overtime on Tuesday, Derrick Rose missed nearly the same shot in overtime at the Staples Center, sending the game to a second extra session. The Bulls came back from a 9-point deficit in the final 70 seconds, including former Laker Pau Gasol tying the game with 11 seconds remaining.
Jordan Hill led the way with 26 points, including a jumper to force the second overtime, helping the Lakers snap a 9-game losing streak. Wayne Ellington had 23 points, while Jordan Clarkson added 18 for Los Angeles, who recorded their first win since January 9th. The Lakers avoided the franchise's longest losing streak, set by the 1994 team coached by Magic Johnson.
Carlos Boozer contributed 16 points against his former team, as the Lakers got their first win since it was announced that Kobe Bryant would miss the rest of the season.
Gasol had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds in his first game at the Staples Center since leaving the Lakers. First-time all-star Jimmy Butler scored a career-high 35 points, while Derrick Rose scored 17.
The Lakers led by as many as 15 points in the second half.
After falling to the Suns on Friday night, the Bulls now sit at 30-19 and will visit the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. The Lakers sit at 13-34 and will visit the also struggling New York Knicks tomorrow afternoon.
