There were some head-scratching moves after the Los Angeles Lakers landed LeBron James with a four-year deal on July 1st. It wasn't necessarily in the talent that they were adding, but more of the personality. We all know what James had to deal with while being a teammate to J.R. Smith in Cleveland, and we saw it on display under the big lights in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. But within 24 hours of landing LeBron, the Lakers brought in JaVale McGee, Lance Stephenson, and Rajon Rondo. All of which have been involved in plenty of controversy during their NBA careers.
On Friday, they added to that group by signing Michael Beasley to a one-year, $3.5 million contract. Despite Beasley's questionable character and personality, LeBron has stated to being a fan of his game. The two were teammates for one season with the Miami Heat during the 2013-2014 campaign.
The 29-year-old is coming off a very nice season with the New York Knicks, which saw him average 13.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in 74 games. That included him making half of his shots from the floor overall and 40 percent from beyond the arc.
The forward also drew interest from the Oklahoma City Thunder in free agency. Since getting drafted second overall by the Miami Heat in 2008, Beasley has averaged 12.7 points and 4.8 rebounds. In his lone season with James, he averaged 7.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in just 55 games. Although, the Lakers firmly believe that they will get much more production this time around with "The King" in Hollywood.
