The Las Vegas Golden Knights looked to have been dealing with a bit of a sophomore slump early on this season, but they have quickly turned that around and are now looking like the team that made it to the Stanley Cup Finals a season ago. They stayed red hot on Tuesday night, taking out the New York Rangers at home, 4-2, for their seventh straight win. Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves for the Knights, who are now in second place in the Pacific Division, tied in points with the first-place Calgary Flames. The San Jose Sharks are also tied in points atop that division, as those three teams seem to be pulling away from the rest of the Pacific teams.
The loss for the Rangers is their fourth in a row, which has them down just three spots out of last place in the Metropolitan Division. They have been outscored, 22-5, during this current skid, dropping to 17-8-7 on the season. Mika Zibanejad and Jesper Fast both scored for the Rangers, who got 27 saves from Alexandar Georgiev in the loss. Georgiev has allowed nine goals in just two starts this year.
Jonathan Marchessault recorded his third game-winning goal of the season, giving Fleury his 25th win of the season, which leads the NHL in 39 starts this year. He also recorded the 429th victory of his career, which is just eight shy of tying Jacques Plante for eighth on the all-time wins list. Cody Eakin, Branond Pirri, and Ryan Carpenter all scored for Vegas, who now has 58 points with their 27th victory of the season. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the second period on their home ice, and are now 15-3-3 at T-Mobile Arena this year, and 19-4-3 overall since November 18th.
The red-hot Knights will stay home to host the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night, as they look to extend their 12-game home point streak. Meanwhile, the Rangers will return home to host the New York Islanders that same night.
