NBA shooter Kevin Martin used an ad in his local newspaper to announce on Friday that he has retired from the league. Martin played for five teams over 12 seasons, most recently with the Timberwolves and Spurs last year.
Martin's most notable stretch in the league came in his five seasons with the Sacramento Kings. His best season there came in 2008-2009, when he averaged a career-high 24.6 points.
The 33-year-old has been dealt multiple times for big-named superstars. In 2010, he was dealt from the Kings to the Rockets for Tracy McGrady. Martin would go on to spend two more seasons in Houston. And then in 2012, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder for James Harden.
The veteran out of Western Carolina has reportedly known about this decision since June, but still called the process "tough." In the end, Martin states he knows "the direction I want my life to go."
