Calipari also confirmed the news on his radio show, just one day after the Wildcats were eliminated by an overtime loss to the Auburn Tigers in the Elite Eight on Sunday. The coach claimed that this contract has nothing to do with the coaching rumors, but more simply that "they presented it to me and I appreciate it." He went on to add that "where else would I want to coach."
The coach's current contract runs through the 2024 season, and he is already the highest-paid basketball coach in the country. as he is paid $9.2 million per season. The Wildcats went 30-7 this past season, but fell short of what would've been their fifth Final Four under Calipari. They have been there in 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2015, and went on to win the National Championship in 2012. Although, this year is the third consecutive season that they have fallen short of the Final Four, despite making it to the second weekend.
The 60-year-old has a career record of 305-71 with the Wildcats, and is 708-209 in his coaching career, which includes a stop with Memphis. He has made 20 NCAA Tournaments in his 27 seasons, including four Final Fours and one National Title. He is no doubt a Hall of Fame coach from his illustrious career which will now for sure end at Rupp Arena in Kentucky.
