Penguins Take Triple-OT Thriller; Flames Blank Stars

• The New York Rangers thought they had the game won in the third period with a go-ahead goal, but that was changed, which led to three overtime periods and a 4-3 Pittsburgh Penguins Game 1 win.
• Evgeni Malkin tipped home the winning goal for the second Stanley Cup Playoff OT winner of his career.
• Jake Guentzel scored twice, while Bryan Rust and Sidney Crosby each had two assists.
• ​Casey DeSmith made 48 saves before exiting, as Louis Domingue stepped in with 17 saves.
• Malkin's game-winner came 5:58 in to the third overtime period.
• That spoiled Igor Shesterkin's 79 saves, which is the second-most in Stanley Cup Playoff history.
• Only Joonas Korpisalo's 85 for the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2020 playoffs is above him.
• Chris Kreider had a goal and an assist, while Adam Fox and Andrew Copp scored in the loss.
• The Calgary Flames leaned on their goaltender to shut out the Dallas Stars for a 1-0 victory at home in Game 1 on Tuesday night.
• Jacob Markstrom got his second-career Stanley Cup Playoff shutout, making 16 saves on the night.
• Elias Lindholm was the only one to find the back of the net in this one, getting a power play goal in the first period.
• This was the Flames' second home playoff win since 2015.
• The Stars got 25 saves on 26 shots from goalie Jake Oettinger in his playoff debut.
• The Pacific Division winners will host the first Wild Card team for Game 2 on Thursday night.

Other playoff scores on Tuesday saw T.J. Oshie net the go-ahead goal in the Washington Capitals' 4-2 upset of the Florida Panthers. And the Colorado Avalanche used a five-goal first period for a 7-2 Game 1 rout of the Nashville Predators.

Leafs' Kyle Clifford Suspended One Game

• Toronto Maple Leafs forward Kyle Clifford has been suspended one game for boarding against Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ross Colton.
• The incident occurred in the Leafs' Game 1 rout of the Lightning on Monday night.
  
• Clifford will miss Game 2 of the series on Wednesday night.
  
• This is the first time in his 12-year NHL career that he has been suspended.
  
• The veteran was ejected for the play in just his second shift of the game during the first period.
  
• He hit Colton from behind, sending him to the ice, which led to a five-minute penalty.
  

Morant, Grizzlies Even Series; Celtics Bounce Back Against Celtics

• Ja Morant shined in Memphis on Tuesday night, powering his Memphis Grizzlies to a 106-101 win over the Golden State Warriors, evening the series at one-apiece.
• Morant had 47 points to tie a playoff career high for him. 
• He scored the Grizzlies' final 15 points over the final 4:16, including the go-ahead shot with 1:42 to play. 
• The star also had 47 points in Game 2 last season against the Utah Jazz, and is now just the third player in NBA history with multiple 45-point games in the postseason before turning 23. LeBron James is the other.
• Ziairie Williams made four shots from three-point range and had 14 points.
• Jaren Jackson Jr. added 12 points before fouling out for the third time in eight games.
• Brandon Clarked added 10 points off the bench.
• Steph Curry led the Warriors with 27 points in the loss, as they will host Game 3 on Saturday night.
• The Boston Celtics also bounced back in a big way Tuesday night, blowing past the Milwaukee Bucks, 109-86, in Game 2 to even the series at one.
• Jaylen Brown had 30 points to lead the Celtics, including 25 in the first half.
• Brown was 9-for-10 from the floor in the opening 24 minutes, including 5-for-5 from three-point range.
• Jayson Tatum added 19 point and eight assists, while Grant Williams posted 21 points.
• Al Horford chipped in a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
• The Celtics were a solid 20-for-43 from beyond the arc on the night.
• They took advance of 16 Bucks turnover that turned in to 24 points.
• Giannis Antetokounmpo had 28 points in the loss, most of which came in the third quarter.

Heat's Tyler Herro Named Sixth Man of The Year

• The Miami Heat are cruising thus far in the second round against the shorthanded Philadelphia 76ers, and they had more reason to celebrate on Tuesday with Tyler Herro winning the Sixth Man of The Year Award.
• He received 96 of a possible 100 first-place votes, and 488 total points.
  
• Herro beats out Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cameron Johnson of the Phoenix Suns.
  
• Love finished in second place with 214 points, with Johnson getting 128.
• The guard came off the bench in 56 of the Heat's 66 games, posting 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists this season.
  
• Coming off the bench specifically, he averaged 20.8 points in those games.
  
• He is the first Heat player to win the award and the fifth to average 20 points per game.
  
• The former 13th overall pick out of Kentucky surpassed 30 points eight times this year.
  

Yankees Roll to 11th Straight; Dusty Baker Reaches 2K Wins

• The New York Yankees had no issues extending their winning streak on the road Tuesday night, rolling to a 9-1 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays.
• The Yankees have now won 11 straight games, making it consecutive seasons with a double digit win streak.
• Aaron Judge went deep and drove home three runs on the night, while Giancarlo Stanton added a two-run blast in the ninth.
• Judge's homer tied the game in the sixth inning, tying him with Anthony Rizzo for the big league lead with nine.
• The Yankees lead the majors with 34 home runs this season, including 23 over the past 11 games.
• The slugger Judge has 23 RBIs over the past five games, while Josh Donaldson and Marwin Gonzalez each doubled home a run.
• Jameson Taillon enjoyed the run support and go this second win after allowing five hits and walking none while striking out four over six innings.
• The Houston Astros helped manager Dusty Baker make history on Tuesday night, shutting out the Seattle Mariners, 4-0, at home.
• The win gives Baker 2,000 wins in his managerial career.
• He is the 12th manager in MLB history to reach that mark, and the first African American to do so.
• Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve each went deep with solo shots, while Jeremy Pena drove home the other two runs.
• Ten of the other 11 managers with 2,000 wins are currently in the Hall of Fame.
  
• Bruce Bochy is the only exception to that, sitting with 2,003 victories.
  
• Baker is one of just two black managers in the majors right now.
  

Other key scores saw the New York Mets sweep a doubleheader from the Atlanta Braves with 5-4 and 3-0 victories. Ryan Jeffers' three-run shot sent the Minnesota Twins to their fourth straight win, 7-2, over the Baltimore Orioles. Chris Taylor's two-run single was the difference in their 3-1 victory against the San Francisco Giants. Mike Zunino's extra-inning blast sent the Tampa Bay Rays past the Oakland Athletics, 10-7. And Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez both went deep in the Boston Red Sox's 4-0 shutout of the Los Angeles Angels.

Twins' Miguel Sano to Undergo Surgery

• Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano is set to undergo surgery on his knee and has been ruled out indefinitely.
• Manager Rocco Baldelli made the announcement on Tuesday, with no official timetable for his return.
• This news comes after he was placed on the 10-day injured list with the issue.
• The injury occurred while celebrating a 5-4 walk-off win over the Detroit Tigers on April 26th.​
• The 29-year-old suffered soreness in his knee during their 9-1 win over the Rays on Saturday.
• That was his first game back after missing three games with the issue.
• Luis Arraez got the start at first base on Sunday in his absence, and will be the primary replacement.
• This roster move helped the Twins get to 26 players on their roster by Monday.

Reds Place Joey Votto on COVID IL

• The Cincinnati Reds are struggling, really bad, and so is veteran Joey Votto, who was placed on the COVID injured list on Tuesday.
• The news came right before their loss Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers.
  
• Manager David Bell confirmed that Votto has not tested positive for the virus.
  
• He was in the original lineup against the Brewers before showing symptoms.
  
• The 38-year-old did test positive for COVID-19 in March of 2021.
  
• The Reds are just 3-20 this season, dropping seven in a row and 18 of 19 after Tuesday.
  

Falcons Give Grady Jarrett Three-Year Extension

• The Atlanta Falcons reached a deal with defensive tackle Grady Jarrett on Tuesday, giving him a three-year contract extension.
• The deal is worth $51 million, with $34.5 million contract.
  
• This now locks Jarrett in with the Falcons through the 2025 season, with a total value of $67 million.
  
• The 29-year-old made consecutive Pro Bowls in 2019 and 2020 and has started every game since the start of the 2016 season.
  
• Over 110 games in his NFL career, he has posted 359 tackles, 26.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
