The Cyclones forced the Jayhawks in to 24 turnovers, which is a season-high for Bill Self's team, as they have split the first two games of conference play, and have now dropped two games on the season. Kansas did out-rebound Iowa State, 41-26, but that was not enough, as they fell behind by double digits with 9:59 to play in regulation, and could not bounce back.
Quentin Grimes scored 19 points, while Dedric Lawson finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds in the loss for Kansas, who was coming off a win over the Oklahoma Sooners to open Big 12 play. That came on their home floor, but they struggled away from home, partially due to them being without big man Udoka Azubuike. The big man was reportedly hit on the right wrist during Friday's practice, and will undergo an MRI on Sunday. X-rays on the wrist were negative, but he was still in too much pain to participate in Saturday's upset loss.
The Jayhawks will return home on Wednesday night to host the TCU Horned Frogs, while Iowa State, who may be ranked come Monday, will visit the Baylor Bears on Tuesday.
