Hamilton was chasing down a puck in the second period along the boards, but got tied up with Kevin Stenlund and fell awkwardly, with his leg caught behind and underneath him. The injury is specifically to his fibula, but no timetable has been announced for his return.
The 26-year-old has played in 47 games for the Hurricanes this season and ranks second in the NHL for goals by a defenseman with 14 of them. When you add in his 26 assists, he ranks fourth in overall points by a defenseman with 40, and was getting ready for his first-career NHL All-Star Game next week. Although, it will be his teammate Jaccob Slavin taking his place on the All-Star roster, while the Hurricanes still hold the top Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, just three points behind the New York Islanders for a divisional spot.
