There was only 0.8 seconds on the clock at the beginning of Hauser's game-tying play, as he took the inbound pass and hoisted up the shot. The shot was called good originally, and then survived a review before overtime began. Howard's big night beat out the Big East record he set himself a season ago, when he scored 52 points against Providence. His point total on Wednesday was the most by any player against a Division I opponent this season. It is just one point behind the entire game of college basketball, as Furman's Jordan Lyons had 54 against Division-II North Greenville.
The big-time shooter for Marquette also set arena records by shooting 10-of-14 from three-point range, as he increased his conference scoring average to 25.8 points per game. Already this season he has put up 45 against Kansas State and Buffalo, including a 40-point second half against the Bulls. The Golden Eagles won for the first time in four road games, improving to 2-1 in conference play. They also handed the Blue Jays their second straight loss, as they sit at 10-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Howard and Marquette will be back in action on Saturday at home against Seton Hall. Creighton will be at home on Sunday against the Villanova Wildcats.
