The Charlotte Hornets have already started the process of parting ways with veteran Marvin Williams, who is expected to sign with the Milwaukee Buck as soon as Monday. The team is also giving up on one of their own draft picks, a former top pick to be exact, in Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. The two sides are reportedly finalizing a buyout as well, with the Dallas Mavericks listed as a possible destination for him. The former Kentucky Wildcat star was the second overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by Charlotte, who was known as the Bobcats then.
The 26-year-old was officially waived on Saturday, but needs to clear waivers before he can sign elsewhere. He has spent his entire eight-year NBA career in Charlotte, but has been limited to just 12 games this season. In those contests, Kidd-Gilchrist is averaging just 4.0 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. The forward may need a change of scenery to a more competitive team, such as the Mavericks, to bring that fire back that has slowly gone away as years have gone on. Over 433 career games, he has posted 8.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per contest.
