James Harden thought the 30-point streak was "cool," but is more concerned with getting victories at this point of the season. That came up when his 30-point streak came to an end on Monday night as the Houston Rockets beat the Atlanta Hawks, 119-111, at the Toyota Center. Harden finished with 28 points on the night, ending his 30-point streak at 32 games, which is good for the second-longest in NBA history. Wilt Chamberlain holds the longest such streak in NBA history at 65 consecutive games. The bearded star's streak ends as he returned from missing Saturday's game against the Golden State Warriors, which was a victory for his team at Oracle Arena. Harden was dealing with a neck injury and missed all 10 of his three-point attempts on Monday, which could be a testament to him not yet being 100 percent.
The win for Houston helped them overcome Trae Young's career night, as the rookie put up career highs with eight three-pointers and 36 points for the lowly Hawks. You would think it would be shootout between him and Harden, but the Rockets' star didn't reach 28 points until there was 23.3 seconds left in the game. He had the ball as time expired, but was at halfcourt and did not put up a miracle shot with a chance to extend his streak.
It was the first game that he did not reach 30 points since December 11th, which was a win over the Portland Trail Blazers. He had 29 points in that game, and during his streak, surpassed 50 points four times, including a career-high 61 in a win over the New York Knicks on January 23rd.
He will hope to begin a brand new streak on Wednesday night when the Rockets visit the Charlotte Hornets. The Hawks will move on to host the Minnesota Timberwolves that same night.
